Behind the scenes: 2018 AFLX Tournaments

Ah AFLX… the much discussed variation of Australian Rules Football made its long-awaited debut last month in Adelaide. The hybrid game then travelled onto Melbourne before culminating in Sydney in what was a marathon three-day three-tournament series. It was certainly an unusual experience going in completely blind. It’s one thing knowing footy inside out but throw in a rectangular field, silver Sherrins and Zooper goals into the mix and it’s a whole different story. No one really knew what to expect! Call me bias but I like it. It has a place in the pre-season and I can see the…

5 minutes with: Fashion blogger & business woman Nadia Bartel

Nadia Bartel is a woman in the know within the world of fashion. The Melbourne based mum-of-two is a regular on best dressed lists and street style pages off the back of her blogging success with her website the Chronicles of Nadia. The style maven has re-launched her online boutique The Con-nection alongside sister Michelle Coppolino in mid-2016. I caught up with Nadia at the time to dissect The Con-nection and discuss her fashion philosophies behind her stylish success. How did THE CON-NECTION come about? My sister and I always wanted to do something together. We are incredibly close but also so different in many…

Review: My all-time favourite face masks

I’m a firm believer that every woman needs a face mask in her skincare routine, stat. At least one. Maybe two. I move between three or four. Once you get on board the mask bandwagon it’s kinda hard to stop. But there’s good reason for it! To explain the wonders of these products I caught up with Crystal, a skincare expert and founder of Melbourne skincare clinic Clinica Lase. I’ve also included some detail on my thoughts and experiences with my favourite face masks, alongside of Crystal’s review, below. What are the main benefits of using a face mask in your…

5 minutes with: Teacher & model Brit Davis

I caught up with Brit Davis ahead of her role of Australian Grand Prix Ambassador in 2016. – Brit Davis is a quintessential Melbourne girl with a bubbly personality and stunning looks to match. The Parkdale native, who now calls Geelong home with partner Geelong captain Joel Selwood, has just been appointed 2016 Formula 1® Rolex Australia Grand Prix ambassador. It’s not hard to see why the 24-year-old was selected for the role. She proudly displays a passion for her hometown and the prestigious occasion. “The event is known internationally and it gives me a chance to showcase Melbourne and…

2018 Tour Down Under

Take me back to the 2018 Tour Down Under! Holidays seem long gone to me now, even though our week in Adelaide was only a fortnight ago. Now I’m counting down to tonight’s AFL Women’s season opener and AFLX in the not-so distant future! Anyway back to bikes… Jason and I are lucky to share a common interest in cycling and have gone to every Tour Down Under for as long as I can remember. Not only do TDU goers get to see some of the best professional cyclists in the world, but the event also offers spectators the chance…

5 minutes with: TV presenter & AFLW player Abbey Holmes

“I had to pinch myself a few times looking around and going, it’s just amazing because they’re here for us” – Abbey Holmes. To say the inaugural NAB AFL Women’s Competition was been a success would simply be an understatement. The eight-team league exceeded all expectations as it captured the heart and imagination of people of all ages Australia-wide. From their infectious enthusiasm to their dedication and never-say-die attitude, these women are true pioneers for not only females in football but for women in sport. Abbey Holmes grew up in a typical footy-loving household, and like so many girls she pursued…

Behind the scenes: 2017 AFL season, Round 1-22

So that’s the 2017 AFL season in the bag, and what an epic year it was. From the start of February, with the first ever AFL Women’s Competition, right through to the last Saturday in September – or late October if you’re counting the Trade Period too – this season has been one rollercoaster of a ride I’ll never forget. When you live, breath and work footy that equates to roughly eight straight months anticipating, absorbing and analysing the weekend’s results. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s fair to say now games are done and dusted, Saturdays…

A cheat’s guide to anti-ageing: Everything you need to know from a skincare expert

Ageing. Ugh. Who really wants to contemplate the pitfalls of getting older… Not me! But rather than pretend like it’s not happening I’m attempting to face up to facts, hello fines lines EVERYWHERE, and get on the front foot in slowing this whole process down. While the subject is not necessarily high on the order of conversation, anti-ageing certainly is on the mind of most as some of us search for preventions of the seemingly inevitable. For me, it all starts with my face following the appearance of a few fines as I edge further into my mid to late 20s. Thankfully though…

5 reasons why you’ll fall in love with epi-blading

So you want to shave your face. Wait, what? That idea isn’t as far fetched as it sounds… Professionally known as epi-blading, or dermaplaning, removing that pesky peach-like fuzz on your face is a surprisingly simple way to improve your complexion for the better. I know what you’re thinking but I highly advise backing away from your razor! A DIY job will see you run the risk of nicks, rash, spreading bacteria and a patchy result. That’s where the skin experts at Clinica Lase come in. These lovely ladies won’t miss a spot with their super steady hands and surgical-like…

5 minutes with: Collingwood Magpies Netball captain Madi Robinson

I caught up with Australian netballer Madi Robinson at the end of the 2017  Suncorp Netball season. – As the Collingwood Magpies Netball season comes to a close, following a nail biting one-goal loss to the Giants in the Suncorp Super Netball minor semi-final, captain Madi Robinson should be nothing short of proud of her achievements. The 29-year-old joined Australia’s largest sporting club as part of a new look national netball competition at the start of 2017. It was a big move for the former Melbourne Vixen and one into unchartered territory as two AFL clubs, Collingwood and the GWS Giants,…
