How to: Travel in style according to Friend in Fashion

Jasmin Howell is a true jetsetter and trendsetter. From bustling city sidewalks to pristine beaches and everything in between, she provides a legion of Friend in Fashion followers with endless outfit and lifestyle inspiration.

The Melbourne-based blogger has recently teamed up with shoe label Ballettonet and designed a limited edition collection of trans-seasonal styles.

I caught up with Jasmin to find out more about her designs and to discuss some of her top travelling tips.

What inspired you when you were designing the collection?

My love for travel was a big inspiration for the collection, and I worked hard to design a staple collection of shoes that will easily take you from roaming the streets of Paris, to island hoping through the isles of Capri. Style, practicality and comfort have all played a part in the design process.

What’s your favourite pair of shoes from the collection and why?

I love each and every pair, but at the moment, I’m living in the patent Chelsea boots – they add instant chic to every outfit!

How would you style an outfit with the flats, slides and boots?

I wanted to design a collection that really is versatile. Shoes that can be interchanged with any outfit. I love to wear the flats worn with skinny jeans, a tee and a leather jacket. The slides are perfect with floaty dresses, and the boats – well anything!

What does wanderlust mean to you?

Wanderlust is a never ending sense of adventure. Constantly craving that travel experience.

What are your top three tips for being a luxe traveller?

Take advantage of a stopover – Being confined to a plane for an extended period is a big ask, regardless of the class you fly. Break up the journey and a night or two en-route to and from. Have a stretch, a shower, a sleep (and in my case a shop), it’s worth it and will you help you hit the ground running.

Travel light – Lugging around heavy luggage is a nightmare when travelling across multiple destinations. Pack only essentials and a wardrobe that can be mixed and matched easily. Pack smart, and leave behind heavy items like hairdryers that can be found easily in most destinations.

Keep a pack of toiletries in your hand luggage – I love a great eye cream and rose-water mist, for an instant refresh!

How do you stay fashionable when you’re travelling?

It’s all about key accessories. A pair of statement shoes (mine are perfect!), and oversized pair of shades, designer handbag and spritz of your favourite fragrance, will add the perfect finishing touches to any outfit, keeping you looking chic!

Name your number one tip for packing for a holiday.

Less is more – pack only essentials – and leave plenty of room for shopping at your destination!

What’s your favourite travel destination and why?

I have SOOO many travel favourites – I’m a city girl at heart, so Paris, NYC and Tokyo are all special to me – when it comes to summer escapes – Greek and Croatian Islands, Côte d’Azur, and Rio are all on my list! Oops – I almost forgot the magical Maldives (I kid you not, absolute heaven on earth).

Is there somewhere you haven’t been and would love to go?

Patagonia is on my list – I’m completely mesmerised by this incredibly gorgeous natural landscape.
