So that’s the 2017 AFL season in the bag, and what an epic year it was. From the start of February, with the first ever AFL Women’s Competition, right through to the last Saturday in September – or late October if you’re counting the Trade Period too – this season has been one rollercoaster of a ride I’ll never forget.
When you live, breath and work footy that equates to roughly eight straight months anticipating, absorbing and analysing the weekend’s results. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s fair to say now games are done and dusted, Saturdays and Sundays feel a little strange footy free!
Throughout the 2017 AFL season I expanded my role within the AFL Media newsroom, up to four days a week in the office, and got out and about covering one-game a round most weekends. My love for footy only grew this year, even though my heart was broken in two when my team lost the Grand Final right before my very eyes… (cue tears). It’s hard not to get swept up in passion of footy’s stories, when you virtually live and breath it 24/7.
Despite suffering from post-season heartbreak I couldn’t let the year pass without documenting my experience on footy’s frontline for the AFL’s social media channels. First off the rank, enjoy some of my favourite snaps from the 2017 AFL season.
